Most Fasheve jewellery is 316L stainless steel with a gold-tone PVD finish. It is designed to be worn, not stored. Looked after with a little sense, it will hold its colour for years.
What it handles
A tarnish-resistant PVD finish — made for everyday: shower, gym, rain. You do not need to take it off for the shower, a workout or a wet walk home. It will not turn your skin green and it does not need polishing to stay bright.
What to avoid
- Harsh chemicals. Bleach, oven and bathroom cleaners, acetone and nail-varnish remover, and solvent-based products. Remove your jewellery before you use them.
- Chlorinated and salt pools. Prolonged soaking in a chlorinated pool or hot tub is the one water we would keep it out of. Rinse with fresh water if it happens.
- Abrasives. No toothpaste, no baking soda, no polishing cloths with a cutting compound, no scouring pads. Abrasives work by removing surface, which is exactly what you do not want on a coated piece.
- Perfume and hairspray directly on the piece. Fragrance first, jewellery second. It is a good habit for any jewellery.
- Heavy impact. Take rings and bracelets off for weightlifting, DIY and gardening. A hard knock can mark any metal.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild washing-up soap, and your fingers or a soft toothbrush for the crevices in a chunky chain. Rinse in clean water and dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Between wears, a dry soft cloth is usually all it needs to lift off skin oils and bring the shine back.
Storage
Dry, and separately. The main risk to a good finish is other jewellery: metal against metal scratches. Keep pieces in the pouch or box they arrived in, or in a lined compartment tray. Fasten necklace clasps before you put them away and lay chains flat rather than coiled, which stops tangles and kinks in fine links.
Enamel, pearl and glass details
These need a gentler hand than the steel around them.
- Enamel can chip against a hard surface and dull with solvents. Wipe with a damp cloth rather than soaking, and put enamel pieces away where they cannot knock against anything.
- Pearls are soft and porous. Keep them away from soap, perfume and alcohol, never soak them, and wipe them with a slightly damp cloth after wear. Pearls last longest worn often and stored loosely, not sealed in plastic.
- Glass and crystal stones are usually set with adhesive. Avoid soaking, ultrasonic cleaners and steam, all of which loosen settings over time.
